Sunday Bocce Ball Tournament at Montville Park. The 2009 UNICO National and Cancer Research Bocce Ball Tournament.
Petey, Gene, Joe, and Cubby before our first match.
I picked up my team mates at 5:45 AM and we headed up to Montville for a Bocce Ball Tournament. 16 teams participated in this annual event. We got in a practice game on all four courts. Gene and Cubby vs. Petey and Joe. Gene and Cubby won all four practice games. The first round of the event started at 10AM.

Here we are with the UNICO National President Andre’ DiMino after winning the tournament. It was a double elimination event and we went undefeated for the victory. We won $700 for the championship. This was my first Bocce Ball tournament. My team mates lost in the semifinals in last year's event. I was glad to be part of this year's team and a factor in the victory. It was a great team effort with everyone contributing for the win.
Here is a picture of the bracket chart showing our trek through the tournament. We represented Point Pleasant where my three team mates live and I work.
UNICO National provides an annual grant of $50,000 for Cancer Research. This event helped raise thousands of dollars towards that effort.
Thanks to all of the event staff and volunteers for making this a great event. The competion was great and it was a pleasure getting to meet so many nice people at the event. The food provided was outstanding!
We are looking forward to next years event.
Unico National is the largest Italian American service organization in the USA. Check out their site at this link: http://www.unico.org/
